What does it mean when you are ‘grounded’? And how does that relate to ‘raising your vibration’? What do these phrases mean, and why do they matter in your daily life?
Read on for more.
We have all met that person who seems very aware, and stays calm even when things are going a bit crazy. And we also have all met that person who just always seems to be ‘somewhere else’ when you talk with them…. They don’t seem to be really there or present with their surroundings much of the time, and it’s not just they are distracted (although that can be part of it).
Grounding Your Energy
We all live in a physical existence, with a body. Just how things work. But we also have a mind and a spirit that are beyond our bodies. Being grounded means that our mind and soul are well connected, integrated, and we are clearly aware of our surroundings, by using our body as the vehicle of that awareness.
When we aren’t grounded, we are driving a car down the road, but we don’t have our hands on the steering wheel firmly (or at all). Our driving is more erratic, and if we hit a bump, or need to turn suddenly, we can’t respond as effectively as when we have our hands firmly on the steering wheel. Our lives are the same way. When we aren’t well grounded, our paths are more erratic, and we are more likely to hit unexpected events that will send us off course, cause an accident, or worse.
Being grounded allows us to be more aware, more able to respond with intention to what is coming, or what has happened.
Raising Your Vibration – What Is That About?
This phrase can cause folks to roll their eyes, to turn away, or just be confused. I struggle with it at times myself; not because of what it means, but just because the phrase feels very woo woo, and implies a judgement that is not often not appropriate.
Origins of the phrase relate to the physics of matter and energy: that everything has a ‘frequency’ or vibration (yes, even solid objects). Adding energy will increase the vibration of matter. But is that what folks mean when they say to ‘raise your vibration’? That you should put yourself into an oven, or plug yourself into an electric socket, so you have more energy (and so have a higher vibration)?
Since most of us ideally don’t want to roast or electrocute ourselves, how would we go about ‘raising our vibration’?
Simply put, it is about being ‘lighter’ in our thoughts.
Laughter, love, being peaceful (refer back to being more grounded, which helps you be at peace more), being in the present (there is that grounding again), playing, being in nature (and seeing it), and having gratitude for little things…. All this is ‘raising’ your vibration. Thinking more positive, helpful thoughts; trusting that God has your back; touching someone in a loving way. All this, and things like it.
It really is that simple. But….
(Sadly, there is a but here.) We are often habitual in our patterns of being darker / gloomier. We focus on the worries; we look at what is going wrong. We hold onto anger or resentment. We get down about the gloom of news and let it cloud our thoughts (being aware is okay – holding onto it and integrating the ‘bad’ is not okay).
Being Lighter
So, now we know what vibration is, and how to raise ours. Why does this matter? Why bother to change our habits?
Having a higher vibration makes things easier in our daily lives.
When we work in lower vibrations, it’s like being outside on a particularly warm, humid day. The air feels heavy; it is more difficult to move quickly; it takes more effort simply to do anything. Or put another way, it’s like we are dragging a thick, heavy cable around – it simply takes more work.
When we work in higher vibrations, things move more easily overall. The air is lighter, the breeze is gentle, we are able to do what we want readily, and we end the day feeling refreshed, not exhausted. Instead of a heavy cable, we have a light, strong thread that we move around – it takes less effort; we more easily get things done, and they get done right.
This is never to say there won’t be challenges. But when we have our hands on the steering wheel, and we have more energy available, we can handle those challenges much better overall, and with awareness and focus, we can even avoid many of the minor annoyances (bumps in the road) that can make our days miserable at times.
