In the last post, Opening Doors, we looked at the challenges of locked doors. Here, I want to explore reasons why you may not be able to find a key for that lock, and how you can overcome them.
You may not find the key simply because you are not ready to go through that door. What is on the other side is something you can’t yet understand. To find that key, you need to work through some other skills first. As an example: learning the basic operations of Math (add, subtract, multiply) doesn’t give you an understanding of Algebra, but if you try tackling Algebra without knowing the basic operations of Math, your road of understanding will be very hard indeed!
Another reason you may not see the key is you have distractions or illusions keeping you from finding or seeing the key. Distractions can include looking at things that don’t help: a non-available romantic partner vs the available one you don’t see; strong emotions that cloud your vision – anger, pain, jealousy). Illusions can keep you from seeing the key at all, even when it is really right there. Illusions include some of your expectations – maybe you are looking only for a skeleton key, when it’s really a numeric key pad. Or your believe that they key simply isn’t there – and so you unconsciously can’t see the key.
Finally, you may not be able to unlock the door because what is beyond it is actually harmful to you. At present, all you can see is a locked door. You do not see any warnings because you are focused only on the door or the lock; or perhaps you don’t want to believe that what is there is harmful to you. With patience and practice, you will learn. Eventually, we get to a place of seeing the sign on door saying “do not enter” or “danger”, and appreciate that while we may not know why, it’s for our best
